Department: Education 

Hours: Approximately 15-20 per week 

Compensation: $11/hour

Position Purpose:  

A summer camp intern is responsible for assisting classroom activities and fulfilling studio-based duties alongside instructors for the benefit of participants enrolled in LUX Center Summer Art Camps.

Responsibilities of all Interns: 

  • Help manage classroom facilities and maintain the organization of materials. 
  • Report all accidents or incidents to the Learning & Engagement Staff. 
  • Follow directions given by instructors and LUX Staff. 
  • Attend all training sessions, exact times and dates TBD (will be held mid-late May.) 
  • Attend all monthly staff meetings, exact times and dates TBD. 
  • Abide by and enforce COVID protocols and procedures, including proof of vaccination and booster, mask-wearing, and sanitizing facilities (if applicable). 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

Responsibilities of Teaching Interns: 

  • Participate fully in week-long camp classes by using leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Assist instructors with implementing curriculum that can be completed within the week of camp. 
  • Assist students in expressing themselves creatively while they learn and practice new skills and techniques.  
  • Maintain a classroom climate which nurtures and supports a learning environment with care, patience, and creativity. 
  • Ensure camper’s safety while they are on LUX’s campus. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

Schedule: 

There will be a series of instructor trainings, including instructor orientation, a tour of LUX’s camps, and area specific training. Required trainings will be held on May 24th and 31st at 6PM.

Camps start + end date: Mondays-Fridays, June 5-August 11. 

An end of summer wrap-up will take place Saturday, August 12. 

Teaching Interns will work within the 4 classrooms of the LUX, the 2nd floor Community Gallery, LUX’s outdoor patio, and the LUX's kitchen. Teaching Interns are expected to assist instructors facilitate their week-long class. Morning classes run from 9am-noon and afternoon classes run from 2-5pm. Teaching interns are expected to arrive approximately 15 minutes early to assist instructors with preparing for class, and can expect to stay 15 minutes after class to complete additional cleaning and maintenance.  


Qualifications: 

Candidates must have a high interest in studio art and arts education. Candidates can be seniors in high school or college students. College students are encouraged to be in the process of obtaining a Bachelors in Art, Fine Art, or Art Education. Candidates are expected to be professional at all times. Candidates must support and practice imaginative, engaging, and learner-centered education. Candidates should be able to work individually and collaboratively in a team environment.
