Profile Location
Lincoln , NE

Liana Owad is an American artist living and working in Okinawa, Japan. In 2010 Owad earned her BFA in sculpture from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania and in 2014 her MFA in sculpture from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Owad has been an instructor for both drawing, sculpture, and the proper tool and equipment use at non-profit art centers and at the university level. As a strong advocate for the maker movement, Owad has helped launch two very different maker spaces in the United States. She was both coordinator and then director for Nebraska Innovation Studio, a maker space for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. As Owad's career evolved, she left the university to pursue work with the Chesapeake Arts Center where she established their new MakerSpace. While abroad, she is experimenting in new mediums and techniques with works on paper. Owad observes her domestic environment and draws inspiration from her current surroundings. She focuses on certain elements of routine daily life and through observation and experience she transforms everyday objects, altering them into symbols of their former selves. She finds the physical manipulation of materials and learning new building methods the driving force of her work.

Owad was an artist in residence with the LUX Center for the Arts from August 2014- August 2015.
