Beginning Sewing

Program Description

This class will introduce students to the fundamentals of sewing. The first week will cover hand sewing and seaming essentials, week two will start machine sewing with making fitted masks. The last two weeks will be dedicated to making pajama pants from a simple pattern.

Students are expected to bring:

Sewing Machine
Universal Sewing Machine Needles
Fabric Scissors or Shears
Complimentary Cotton Thread – Thread will match pajama pant color.
3 Yards of Flannel or Nursery Flannel Fabric for Pajama Pants Project
Sewing Pins
Tailor’s Chalk – Either white or blue.
½ yard of 42” wide quilters cotton fabric
Complimentary OR Contrasting Cotton Thread - Thread will either blend or add a pop of color to your mask!

All other supplies and materials are provided.

**COVID-19 Update**
This class meets in person at the LUX Center for the Arts. Masks are required and the number of participants is limited to 6 so we can seat students at a safe distance from each other. Students and staff are also required to wash hands upon arrival to class and to stay home if they feel sick. High-touch classrooms surfaces and tools are also being sanitized between classes.
