This course is designed to introduce and expand understanding of the aesthetic breadth of the intaglio printmaking heritage, as well as develop a familiarity with basic techniques of intaglio printmaking to achieve line drawing, tonal shading, and texture.

Drawings and preliminary studies will be considered and developed into a personal, and convincing, visual point of view. Their transformation into copper plates and print media will be recognized as part of that continuum. Since your hands are learning a new language, you will begin to consider the actual process of transforming initial ideas into drawings, and from drawings into prints. The metamorphic process of printmaking itself allows you to record that circuitous conceptual and visual journey, and invites you to investigate uncharted territory.
