Introduction to Classical Drawing and Painting

Introduction to Classical Drawing and Painting

Program Description

Drawing is understanding what we see.  In this class students work side-by-side with a classically trained artist.
Based on a centuries' old tradition that uses plaster casts as its subject matter, this course has been modified for beginning students.
Basic math and science principles are used to analyze casts in various geometric shapes.
Students begin by drawing the cast of a sphere in charcoal on paper.  Then, they paint the sphere in oil.  This method of instruction allows the student to move seamlessly from one medium to another. Students will also be introduced to universally accepted terms and techniques.

The instructor, Barbara Greving, is a working artist who has studied in several ateliers including Atelier Lack, Minneapolis, MN, Atelier Prohl, Milwaukee, WI and Herieneko/Paquet, St Paul, MN. She has taught nearly one hundred people of all ages to draw and paint.  She can teach you, too!
