*NEW* Zine Printing

*NEW* Zine Printing

Program Description

Students will explore the Zine creation process through relief printing, screen printing, lithographic processes and hot foil stamping!

A zine is a self-published, self-distributed, small circulation booklet. The word zine is derived from “fanzine” — zines are firmly rooted in underground sci-fi, punk, and riot grrrl culture. Zines are typically produced using a photocopy machine, folded, and staple-bound, but they can be printed and bound in any manner. They operate under a DIY aesthetic, born directly out of the author’s personal vision and unmarked by editors, publishers, reviewers, or any outside parties.

This class serves as an exploration into zine, DIY and counter-culture art making. The creative process in printmaking involves collaboration while also emphasizing personal growth and creative flexibility, developing skills through experimentation and critical problem solving. Students will be introduced to the history of zine culture and print technologies, while exploring how contemporary artists utilize these formats to foster connections with both other artists and the public. This class is for students 16+ and all materials will be provided.
