Upcycling Clothes
Upcycling Clothes
Learn to fashion your own clothes! If you can sew a mask on your machine but are not quite sure where to start with clothing, this class is for you. The first two-week students will work on ways to alter clothing that doesn’t fit quite right. The last two weeks students will be working on more self-directed upcycling projects.
Students are expected to bring:
Sewing Machine
Universal Sewing Machine Needles
Fabric Scissors or Shears
Sewing Pins
Tailor’s Chalk – Either white or blue.
- Week 1: Bring a shirt that is too small that you already own or was a fun find at a thrift store+ fabric that you would like to use to enlarge the t-shirt or dress shirt into an upcycled garment.
- Week 2/3: Bring a skirt that is too large that you already own or was a fun find at a thrift store.
- Week 3 & 4: Bring 1-2 pieces for a more self-directed project. Examples could be super long skirt into a shorter/more contemporary skirt, two different shirts being combined into one: like taking the sleeves off of one and putting in on a different shirt front/back.
- Complimentary cotton thread for the items listed above.
- Zippers, buttons, patches, or other items needed to complete above projects.
All other supplies and materials are provided.
