Summer Internships

LUX Center for the Arts is a non-profit arts center that has been serving the Lincoln community for 40 years.  LUX Center for the Arts is proud to offer young adults with summer internship opportunities designed to offer professional experience, networking opportunities and experience working in a collaborative, creative environment. The LUX Center has internship positions available in Education, and Gallery and Marketing. These opportunities are tailored to creative, community minded individuals. The 2019 Summer Internship Program will run from June 3rd-August 9th

Interns will have 24 hour access to the LUX Center studios and equiptment until August 9th. LUX interns recieve 30% off artwork in the shop and 50% off art classes as well as a free LUX tote bag and t-shirt. An orientation will be held on May 31st with free lunch and there will be a closing celebration August 9th with free dinner. 

Education Internship – 15 hours per week
Education interns work with our Artists in Residence and teaching artists to facilitate summer camp art classes and studio maintenance.

6 positions are available, 3 for clay artists and 3 for painting/drawing/other media artists.
Hours are Monday-Friday, June 3-August 9 (no hours July 1-5).
Available shifts are 9am-12pm OR 2-5pm. 

Intern responsibilities include assisting teaching artists, working hands on with students, organizing and prepping materials, and maintaining studio cleanliness during summer camps. Clay interns will also assist with firing and packaging student work for pickup. Having a broad knowledge of art materials and techniques is valuable. Having experience or a strong interest to work with children is essential.

Gallery & Marketing Internship – 15 hours per week 
Gallery and Marketing interns will work with our Gallery Director and Marketing Coordinator to assist in the gallery and with marketing tasks.

2 positions are available.
Hours are Tuesdays-Saturdays, June 3-August 9 (no hours July 1-5).
Available shifts are 11am-2pm OR 2-5pm.
Gallery & Marketing interns will work 5, 3 hour shifts per week totaling 15 hours. 

Intern responsibilities include greeting gallery visitors, ringing up art sales, answering the phone, and assisting with gallery tasks. Interns will also assist with marketing tasks such as uploading photos to social media, and providing general marketing support. Interpersonal skills and the ability to multitask is essential.


Internships at the LUX are unpaid positions. Interns may arrange to receive academic credit through their school. Many colleges require 135-150 hours for internship credit, this internship is ususally 135 hours (9 weeks at 15 hours per week) but additional hours can be added if need be.   Commitment to the entire summer is preferred but applicants with limited schedules are encouraged to apply.
