Advanced Wheel Throwing: Bar and Drinkware
Advanced Wheel Throwing: Bar and Drinkware
This 8-week advanced pottery class is designed for experienced ceramic artists interested in creating sophisticated bar and drinkware inspired by cocktail and alcohol culture. Students will focus on throwing, altering, and refining functional forms such as cocktail glasses, tumblers, wine cups, whiskey sippers, decanters, and pitchers, with an emphasis on consistency, ergonomics, and intentional design. Advanced surface techniques, glazing strategies, and firing considerations for functional ware will be explored, culminating in a cohesive, elevated drinkware set suitable for personal use or professional presentation.
Whether you're looking to refine your skills or explore new shapes and ideas, this course offers the perfect balance of technical challenge and creative inspiration.
This class will use stoneware and conclude with a cone 6 electric and/or a cone 10 gas reduction firing. One bag of commercial stoneware, kiln firings, and related glazes are included. Students also have access to the studio during open hours throughout this eight-week class. Please refer to the Open Studio Calendar in the Ceramics Center for the most up-to-date hours.
