Careers at the LUX

LUX Center for the Arts is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.  The mission of LUX Center for the Arts is to enhance the lives of a diverse public through the visual arts by providing exceptional learning opportunities in contemporary art, craft, and design. These opportunities, honoring the legacy of arts educator Gladys M. Lux, include art classes, residency programs, gallery exhibitions, and community outreach.

2018 SUMMER INTERNSHIPS | May 14-August 17 

Education Intern*

  • Work with the Director of Education to build and strengthen education programs at the LUX
  • Assist in research and analysis of educational offerings
  • Generate reports on education program statistics
  • Work hands-on with students during summer camps and art classes
  • Maintain a list of open studio hours
  • Perform other tasks as needed
  • Time commitment: 7 hours per week, Tuesday-Saturday.

Gallery Intern

  • Work with the Gallery Director to maintain the LUX gallery and exhibition spaces
  • Prepare gallery spaces; unpack and install artwork; adjust lighting; prepare labels, price lists, and signage; dismantle, pack, and return unsold exhibition pieces
  • Maintain gallery shop through regular rotation and upkeep of artwork (organizing, cleaning, etc); prepare and maintain art labels and inventory sheets
  • Communicate with artists; assure contracts are received and are accurate; upkeep and organize artist files
  • Photograph artwork for online sales gallery
  • Photograph exhibitions
  • Update online artist directory
  • Research potential buyers and collectors
  • Research new artists for exhibitions and/or representation
  • Perform other tasks as needed
  • Time commitment: 7 hours per week, Tuesday-Saturday.

Marketing Intern*

  • Assist Marketing Coordinator with various design projects including: First Friday event posters, North Lincoln Summerfest promotional materials, and social media graphics
  • Update the LUX website with recent news and events
  • Update/organize photo library
  • Assist with social media campaigns (write captions, create/schedule targeted campaigns, research relevant content to share)
  • Distribute event posters and flyers around the community
  • Perform other tasks as needed
  • Time commitment: 7 hours per week, Tuesday-Saturday.


*One candidate may be selected to fill both the Education and Marketing intern position. Time commitment would therefore increase to 15 hours per week.


  • Graduate or undergraduate student in art, art history or museum studies program. Additional experience in an art organization or exhibition work considered a plus.
  • Candidate must be eager to learn, self-motivated, have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and have the ability to perform varying levels of clerical and/or physical work.


  • $10/hour compensation
  • Credit may be obtained for this internship through local universities
  • 30% off artwork in the gallery shop
  • 50% off art classes
  • Access to studio facilities
