Permanent Interpretive Display Honors Gladys Lux

Thursday, December 15, 2022

LUX Center for the Arts installed a permanent interpretive display featuring notable Nebraska educator, and regionalist artist, Gladys Lux. With this display, visitors will gain a historical and cultural understanding of Gladys Lux. This display shows the value of her art, her work, how it connects to our own history and culture in Nebraska, and how her impact is still felt to this day.

This interpretive display text was written by Susan Soriente, the curator of the Gladys Lux Print Collection and the installation was designed by Haley Shaw, Director of Exhibitions. It was installed on the 2nd floor of the LUX Center for the Arts in September 2022 and unveiled in October. This project was completed during our Gladys Lux retrospective exhibition, honoring the 45th anniversary of the organization she founded.

With a grant from the Nebraska State Historical Society Foundation, we are able to finally honor the outstanding legacy of Gladys Lux. She was a lifelong educator and celebrated artist who could have been lost to history. This grant helped us educate the public about our namesake and help secure her place in our collective memory for generations to come.
