Immerse your child in creative fun at Lincoln's LUX Center for the Arts! Each day campers will explore new art techniques, work with real artists, and make their own artwork while learning and refining their own artistic abilities. LUX summer camps are led by our skilled teaching artists who will guide your child through hands-on learning in a fun and friendly environment.

We offer spring break and summer camps for K-12 in painting, drawing, pottery, and more. Register for a morning session (9am-noon), lunch care (noon-2pm), and an afternoon session (2-5pm) during the same week to make it a full day camp. Before care is also available (8am-9am).

**2022 Update** At this time we are planning on COVID still being an issue in our community this summer. Masks are still required for staff and students. The number of participants is limited so we can seat students at a safe distance from each other. If the Lancaster County COVID risk dial moves to green we will reevaluate and notify parents of any changes.

Please complete our Medical Release Form for each child participating in our spring break and summer camp programs prior to the first day of class.

FAQ

FAQ
FAQ

How old does my child need to be to enroll in a camp?
LUX camps are offered for kids ages 5-8, youth ages 9-12, and teen ages 13-16. These are more of a guideline than a requirement. For example, if you have a mature 12 year old who would prefer to be in an ages 13-16 camp, that is okay. We do expect that all campers have completed kindergarten as having basic classroom skills is important for a successful camp experience. The one requirement we always stick to is that your child must be at least 9 years old to learn the pottery wheel, age 10 is even better as the person throwing must be physically large enough to push the clay around.

What does my student need to bring or wear to camp?
*2021 COVID-19 Update: Masks are required by all staff and students. The LUX provides all sanitizing materials, handsoap, and hand sanitizer. If students would like to bring their own hand sanitizer, that is perfectly fine with us. We like our campers to wear comfortable clothes and shoes that you won't be too upset if they get stained. Students get very immersed in the art making process and sometimes messy! Many art supplies can stain clothes. We also ask that students bring a plain t-shirt to screen print a camp shirt and a reusable water bottle with their name on it. We do have water fountains but they are not in each classroom. Those enrolled in lunch care also need to bring their lunch in a container with their name on it. Lunches will be stored in a refrigerator.

How do I register for camps?
The best way to enroll in camps is to visit LUXcenter.org/camps. You can also call 402-466-8692 or stop by the LUX to register. Full payment is required at registration.

How much do camps cost?
LUX offers a variety of options and you can build the camp day for your child that fits your schedule. We offer 9am-noon camps, 2-5pm camps, and 8-9am care as well as noon-2pm care. You can sign up morning care, a morning camp, lunch care, and an afternoon camp, or any combination that fits your needs. Camp and additional care are all priced separately. Purchasing a $100 LUX Family Membership will get you a 20% discounts on camp price and lasts for 12 months.  If you are registering for multiple camps it pays for itself pretty quickly.

Paint + Draw/Art Sampler/STEAM/Theatre/T-Shirt Print camps cost $125 or $100 for LUX members. Clay Handbuilding/ Pottery Wheel/ Metal Arts camps cost $150 or $120 for LUX Members. 8-9am care costs $20 for the week and noon-2pm lunch care costs $40 for the week. LUX does not have a multi-child discount and does not prorate camps if your child has to miss a day.

What happens if I need to cancel or reschedule my child’s camp?
If you need to cancel or switch camps, please notify the LUX as soon as possible. Notifying us of cancellations two weeks prior to the start date will result in a full refund, minus a 5% credit card/handling fee. Notifying us of cancellations less than two weeks prior to the start date will result in a LUX credit for the full amount of the original payment. This credit can be use on any other LUX class or workshop in the next 6 months. If you do not cancel by the start date of the class, no refunds will be made. When you register, your spot is held for you and such short notice makes it impossible to fill that spot as camp registration is closed one week before camps starts to provide our artist instructors with accurate class enrollment.  Please understand our cancelation policy helps us enforce the highest standards.

How to Register

How to Register
How to Register

Online registration will remain open until the camp fills to capacity or one week before the scheduled start date of the camp.

Full payment is required during registration. You can register online, walk-in, or give us a call. LUX office and business hours are Tuesday-Saturday from 11am-5pm. When registering online it is easiest to find the camp you want if you filter all of our programs by your child’s age group and filter by type to “camps.”

LUX summer camps are managed by our education department which is staffed by Gwendolyn Lopez and Katie Cramer. Both can be reached by email at gwendolyn@luxcenter.org and katie@luxcenter.org or by phone at 402-466-8692.  We do not share contact information for individual instructors. LUX office and business hours are Tuesday-Saturday from 11am-5pm.

A confirmation email will be sent upon successful completion of online checkout. This email will contain a confirmation number, date, and time of the summer camp(s).  Please save this email for future reference.  If you do not receive a confirmation email within a few minutes of payment please contact us as your spot is not reserved OR an incorrect email address was given and we need to update it. Additional registrations may be added by logging into your account using the same email address you used last time. Please select “I forgot my password” the first time you login to set your password. If you need to make changes to existing class selections please contact the LUX education department.

If a summer camp is full you can email katie@luxcenter.org to be placed on a wait list. If there is an opening, you will be contacted. If your child is enrolled in a camp but needs to switch to another date, time, or can no longer attend you must contact the LUX at least two weeks prior to the class in order to be eligible for any refund.

Supervised care is available from 8am-9am ($20 per week) Lunch Care from 12-2pm ($40 per week, bring your own sack lunch) are available to students enrolled in LUX summer camps. If your employer provides a Flexible Savings Account your camp tuition may be eligible for reimbursement. Click here for more details.

All camps with insufficient enrollment one week prior to the start date will be cancelled. Parents will be notified immediately if a camp is cancelled and will be placed into an alternate class if possible. Otherwise, a full refund will be given. This rarely happens for summer camps.

General Information

General Information
General Information

Please complete our Medical Release Form for each child attending summer camps at the LUX Center prior to the first day of class. Students are served a light snack midway through camp so food allergy information is especially important. In case of emergency, instructors and staff have contact information for parents/guardians and have been instructed to follow LUX Center emergency procedures. Notify the instructor and the Education Department if your contact information has changed from the time that you registered.

Please send your child to camp with a plain t-shirt & reusable water bottle with their name on it. We do have water fountains but they are not in each classroom. Those enrolled in lunch care also need to bring their lunch in a container with their name on it. Lunches will be stored in a refrigerator. The t-shirt is for screen printing a LUX camp t-shirt and can be brought any day before Friday.

Please do not arrive more than 5 minutes before the camp start time. Our instructor's generally arrive 15-20 minutes before class and need the time to prepare supplies.
**For those enrolled, morning care starts at 8am, morning camps start at 9am, afternoon camps start at 2pm.

LUX is located at 2601 N 48th Street on the corner of 48th and Baldwin Street
**Morning care and clay camps are located in the Ceramics Center, on the West side of our parking lot. (Enter through purple door facing Baldwin)
**All other camps and activities take place in our main building. (Enter through the glass door facing the parking lot.)
**If your child is enrolled in multiple camps the pick-up location may be different than the drop off location.

Please have your child wear comfortable clothes and shoes that you won't be too upset if they get stained. Students get very immersed in the art making process and sometimes messy! Many art supplies can stain clothes.

We ask that parents/guardians do not stay in the classroom during class. This can create a difficult dynamic for instructors and students.  You can feel safe knowing that all staff and volunteers that work with children at LUX must go through a background check process. If your child has some separation anxiety on the first day you may stay a few extra minutes.

If your child makes clay projects during their camp they will be available for pick up two weeks after the last day of camp. Projects are alphabetized by student name in the pick up area.

Early Drop-off & Late Pick-up Fees

Students who are dropped off or picked up more than 5 minutes outside of their class times may be billed for a full week of camp care if it seems to be a pattern. LUX does not have care after 5pm. We charge $10 for every 10 minutes you are late after 5pm.
