All the World is a Stage
All the World is a Stage
Grant Reynard a native Nebraskan artist whose print, The Cellist, is in this Lux print exhibition said, “When I began etching, I found many musical subjects which interested me…I find it a wonderful experience, the combination of making a drawing and hearing music at the same time.” Frequently artists speak of rhythm and movement in their images just as composers of music often imagine scenes to inspire their compositions—some call this synesthesia or a combining of the senses. The overlapping of art worlds heightens the power of art and allows multiple senses to participate in artistic creation and expression.
The All the World is a Stage exhibition highlights various types of performances portrayed by printmakers or depict another artform in their prints. The prints are a performance by the artists portraying others performing. A dual treat for the viewer’s senses.
The exhibition title is a well-known quote from Shakespeare’s play, As You Like It. The All the World is a Stage exhibition may be seen in the 2nd floor Lux Print Gallery. The exhibition was curated by Susan Soriente, Curator of the Gladys Lux Print Collection.
