Curator Statement

Explore the World! Embrace Novel Experiences! Meet New People! Traveling mentally or physically adds interest, knowledge, and value to life and promotes growth and openness to the new and the unknown. Artists in this exhibition chose subjects about going places and initiating activity—but why did they do that? A comprehensive answer cannot be given that could be applied to all artists in the exhibition, but possibly they wanted to experience the action vicariously in their artwork or saw the value and delight of portraying that experience for the viewer.

Among the artists in LET’S GO! is Wassily Kandinsky who used his artwork to express his spiritual exploration. In contrast, Paul Sample had a much less expansive goal in his print about a peaceful style of old-fashioned travel. Reynold Weidenaar created an image to commemorate past journeys and going on the last run of a travel giant. The fifteen remaining artists also provide impressions of anticipating an action or are portraying an exhilarating experience.

The exhibition may be seen in the Lux Print Gallery, on the 2nd floor. As you view the artwork in LET’S GO! say the title and imagine how that phrase applies to each print either from the viewer’s perspective or from the image’s viewpoint. Then imagine the emotion you would feel going to that destination. LET’S GO! is curated by Susan Soriente, Curator of the Lux Print Collection.
