Number of positions hiring: Multiple.

Description of position.
LUX Center for the Arts is looking for education majors or education-focused community artists to help us facilitate small group art club activities at after-school programs. We bring hands-on art activities to weekly clubs which take place at several Title 1 elementary schools. Club Leaders are responsible for working with small groups of students during pre-designed arts projects. These projects are designed so that students can explore their own creativity and imagination, while also providing safe spaces to develop social emotional skills in a group setting.
Skilled Leaders will work closely with a small group of students to help guide and support them as they work individually and with their peers. Successful Leaders will be provided with clear instructions and supplies. It is not necessary that Leaders are skilled artists, though a basic understanding of arts concepts and media can be helpful. The most important skills are strong emotional intelligence, classroom management skills, clear communication and the desire to create a positive and welcoming environment in which students feel comfortable.
The LUX art clubs are provided through grant funding and have a clear focus. Our goal is to use art and the process of artmaking to help children build social and emotional skills with their peers. While it is always wonderful to provide kids a take-home piece of art, the real impact of this program is that children get to explore and practice skills related to grit, emotional regulation, peer support and more. Club Leaders create a space in which these skills can be practiced, developed and celebrated.
CLC art clubs take place once a week for each location starting at 3:15pm and ending at 5:15pm. Materials and lesson plans will be provided by LUX staff. Multiple Leaders will be scheduled to support each school so that the total number of students can be split into smaller groups. Leaders will be responsible for collecting and maintaining their club materials, being on time and prepared for each club session, and providing feedback throughout the semester through in class and online feedback forms.
Compensation:
$18/hour
Paid mileage to and from assigned school.
Individuals responsible for tracking accurate hours using online application.
Work commitment and description of duties:
Club Leaders will be assigned to one or more CLC locations. Each location will have specific set of club dates. Leaders must check in at 3:15pm on the day of club, and will check out at 5:15pm after club has finished and clean-up is completed.
Club Leaders will be responsible for collecting assigned materials and lesson plans ahead of each session.
Club Leaders are required to attend 6 hours of training before clubs begin. A site visit for each school location will also be scheduled before camps start.
Club Leaders will be required to submit a background check for each school location as well as complete appropriate contract materials.
