Biography

Jen Carlson, jeweler, creates one of a kind necklaces and earrings from various recycled materials, sterling silver, and natural stones.  Some of these recycled materials are from her businesses, such as Slate-ish (a recycled paper-laminate tile), and Iris Industries, a company that makes recycled glass surfaces.

Her background in art and her experience in the green building industry has influenced her to use non-traditional materials, such as recycled guitar wire, recycled arrow shaft scrap, and cork-rubber industrial waste.

Recently, the use of Slate-ish scrap has driven her exploration of textured vs. smooth, and sparkly vs. honed – and the resulting combinations mix these opposing ideas into striking jewelry.

Jen favors architectural elements, keeping the overall design simple, and often tries to incorporate a kinetic movement to each piece.
