Nine Nebraska Artists Wheat Paste Murals

Nine Nebraska Artists Wheat Paste Murals

KIn conjunction with “Surface Impressions” – Nine Nebraska artists were invited to design and carve their own woodblock print with the help of Karen Kunc at Constellation Studios. The resulting 9 large 24"x36" black and white prints make a composite mural, which has been wheat-pasted in nine neighborhoods around Lincoln. Each location's mural has a unique orientation, presenting engagement for different viewing audiences and experiences. Plus, create a recurrent connection throughout the city. We invite you to take photos as you visit the murals and share your experience using the hashtag #ninenebraskaartists.

Participating Artists

Keith Buswell uses his signature tree motif but one that is enmeshed in mechanical forces that encircle and endanger natural growth, as a climatic crisis seems set in motion.

Jen Deets uses the format of comix to tell a personal story of medical trauma, hope and healing, with a powerful graphic strength and bold style.

Amanda Durig carves a window of foliage bursting from the inside of a derelict house, referencing the efforts and struggles to control nature that gardeners everywhere can understand.

Charley Friedman plays with our visual reading abilities, as text tumbles and twists and causes us to question what is right and true, or upsetting and ironic.

Aaron Holz has carved a prismatic composition of bisecting planes of space, filled with navigation lines, and fragments of flags, for a play of depth, surface, and illusions made with tonal shifts.

Karen Kunc has crafted a piece which expresses elements of the landscape of the plains while contemplating endurance and vulnerability, growth and destruction.

Katie Nieland creates a bucolic landscape of mountains, forests, and a big sky, in which the falcon and bison are held in place with graphic opposition.

Meghan Stratman features a botanical wonderland that surrounds a songbird, with a characteristic sense of innocence and awe, especially at this large scale.

Toan Vuong brings a psychological focus to a closely observed portrait of his father, that honors the family patriarch with sensitivity and presence.
