Tipping Point
Tipping Point
At home, the body aches, and the muscles feel tense under the weight of everything still left to do. A hurried movement past a sideboard pulls a sheet of paper from its surface, sending it zigzagging into the room’s delicate light.
A moment when another reality becomes perceptible: a life freed from the pressures it carries. The moment when two contrasting realities seem to coexist, is interpreted in the digital collages of Evie Hendriks. Heavy, earthy landscapes are set against light, floating objects. Through this body of work, Hendriks invites viewers to enter this split second repeatedly as it unfolds in many variations.
Each of Evie’s collages begins with a close look at digitalized scraps of paper found in the streets, their textures hide all kinds of spaces, shapes, and landscapes. She brings some of these details to the surface in Photoshop, recombining until stylized landscapes are shaped by material, memory, and imagination.
