Department: Education 

Hours: Approximately 4 to 12 per week 

Compensation: 

  • In House Classroom Instructor: $18/hour 
  • Offsite Outreach Instructor: $25/hour plus mileage

Position Purpose:  

In house class instructors are responsible for developing and leading classroom activities for students enrolled in LUX Center classes, workshops and private parties.

Outreach Instructors are responsible for developing and leading classroom activities for students enrolled in off-site workshops. Locations include, but are not limited to: Title 1 Schools, Lancaster County Youth Services, retirement homes and businesses in the Lincoln-Metro area.

Responsibilities: 

  • All Instructors are expected to arrive at least 15 minutes early and stay approximately 15 minutes after each class to ensure the classroom is clean and organized. Instructors are paid for up to 45 minutes of set up and clean up.

  • For Outreach: Instructors are paid for mileage to and from the LUX Center and Outreach site.

  • For Youth and Outreach: Facilitate the creation of art projects that go beyond what students are typically learning in their regular classrooms.

  • Participate fully in classes by using leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.  

  • Create a curriculum that can be completed within a four or six week session. Outreach lessons are available for use in Title I schools. 

  • Maintain a classroom climate which nurtures and supports a learning environment with care, patience, and creativity.  
  • Manage classroom facilities and maintain the organization of materials on-site and off-site. 
  • Ensure student safety while they are on LUX’s campus or on-site for Outreach.  
  • Report all accidents or incidents to the Education Staff or on-site staff for Outreach. 
  • Communicate specific directions to interns, if applicable.  
  • Abide by and enforce COVID protocols and procedures, including proof of vaccination and booster, mask-wearing (if applicable), and sanitizing facilities. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Classroom Instructor Schedule: 

Evening Adult Classes: Meet once a week for four weeks, Tuesday-Thursday evenings.

Family Workshops: Occur once or twice a month, Monday and Friday evenings.

Saturday Youth Classes: Meet once a week for four weeks, Saturday mornings.

Private Parties: Scheduled on an as needed basis.

Outreach Instructor Schedule: 

Title 1 School Outreach: Meet once a week for up to six weeks per quarter, Monday-Friday afternoons during the school year.

Misc. Outreach: Scheduled on an as needed basis.

Qualifications: 

Candidates must have 1-2 years of teaching experience. Experience with elementary, middle, or high school aged students preferred. Candidates are encouraged to have a Bachelors in Art, Fine Art, Art Education, or equivalent experience. Candidates are expected to be professional at all times. Candidates must support and practice imaginative, engaging, and learner-centered education. Candidates should be able to work individually and collaboratively in a team environment.
