Artist Statement

My ongoing passion for this fascinating medium of glass has continued over the past four decades; from the seventies glass blowing hot shop at Portland State University, next in the eighties Aden & Hanes stained glass studio in Multnomah Village, Portland Oregon, then jadenglassworks in Salem Oregon & now River View Glass in Brownville Nebraska. The ability to change the state of this wonderful material from a solid to a liquid and once again back to a solid, not only has unlimited possibilities but continues to push my creative energy. My artwork centers on the relationship between shape and form. Borosilicate glass before the mid-80s was mostly available in clear, very few colors, then with the development of colored rods and tubing a new esthetic became available for the studio. My current body of work at River View Glass encompasses casting, fusing, cold working, slumping, and flame working. All these skill sets can be seen in the never compromising highest level of craftsmanship that professionals seek for their work. River View Glass has the goal to create well-designed pieces of art glass for the public, that will become heirloom items for future generations to enjoy and share with their loved ones.
