A Tribute to Rita Mae Strand.

The Strand Sisters have donated decades of Nebraska art – collected through trips to LUX with their mom – to share with our community.

For decades, sisters Billie Strand and her family built a meaningful art collection through visits to LUX – then known as the University Art Gallery – during the 1970s and 80s. What began as shared trips between mother and daughter grew into a lifelong tradition of collecting Nebraska artists, supporting the local arts community, and finding joy within gallery walls.

In memory of their mother, Rita Mae Strand, the Strand Sisters have generously donated their collection to LUX. The works will be exhibited and sold, with all proceeds supporting LUX Center for the Arts and its mission to keep creativity accessible to all.
