Exhibition Description

BLACK GIRL JUJU MAGIC is a peek into the process of a lifelong artist rediscovering her practice and her hand presented through a lens of artistic experimentation and storytelling that is deeply intimate, while resonating widely.

In new and recent works, Conyers-Hinson explores her artistic foundations and new motivations in her art making, in some cases breathing new life into decades old concepts and designs. With a deep understanding of visual language and nonlinear storytelling, Conyers-Hinson presents a nuanced, though specific, portrayal of Black Americana which serves as a backdrop as she oscillates between family histories, her childhood, and societal narratives. Newer interests and explorations are laid plainly in works such as Voices (2025) which recalls graphic design of the psychedelic and postmodern movements paired with motifs that reach across an ocean and generations.

Acting as an archive of the self BLACK GIRL JUJU MAGIC is a reminder to reach back and remember yourself.

Pamela Conyers-Hinson will be teaching a workshop in tandem with this exhibition, learn more and register:
