Artist Statement

I make figurative ceramic sculptures portraying creatures that are a blend of human and animal. Through these chimera-like creatures I develop my own personal mythology to challenge the boundaries of identity, specifically opening a discussion about the taboo nuances of gender identity outside of the prescribed binary. The figures are set in otherworldly landscapes, paralleling exploration of their non-normative identities.

As they observe these fantastical sculptures, I enable the viewer to take a moment to consider the nuances of identity and the ways in which one takes normative social tropes for granted.
