The functional work I create is in a constant state of discovery and invention to find ways to increase ease and satisfaction but also encourage purposeful interaction with each piece. This exploration happens on a technical level as I consider an original form and manipulate it to fulfill such goals. These changes result in the ability to engage the holder in subtle ways by using their subconscious actions to form connections with the work. Welcoming areas for these connections to occur allow the pieces to become a compliment or extension of parts of the human body. While the cups continue to serve their original purpose of holding liquids, they also evolve to hold the hand. This invitation suggests feelings of comfort and closeness softly directing the interaction. Focusing on the intention of how each piece is utilized helps further the relationship. A bowl with an interior edge makes users purposely retrieve food creating a thoughtful experience without interrupting function. These factors, invention, interaction, and intention, allow satisfying and diverse reactions from each holder.
