Outreach to Youth from Historically Excluded Communities
Through support from our community partners United Way, Nebraska Arts Council, Union Bank & Trust and others, LUX Center for the Arts takes art classes to Title 1 Lincoln Elementary schools, reaching over 600 students per year.
The school programs take place after school at Community Learning Centers set up at each school to provide additional support and opportunities at Title 1 schools. Classes are curriculum-focused and use National and Local Core Arts Anchor Standards for art classes. National studies have shown that access to art instruction improves not only scholastic achievement but also self-esteem, social skills and connection to peers and the community.

“LUX has provided art enrichment opportunities for several years to students in our school who would not typically have these opportunities available to them. Arnold is a Title I school with 64 percent of students qualifying for free/reduced lunch. Many of our students do not have the resources or transportation to participate in other art enrichment activities in Lincoln. Our partnership with the LUX Center for the Arts creates more equity in access to these important art enrichment opportunities.” –Dayna Krannawitter, Arnold Elementary School CLC Coordinator
“We cherish our strong relationship with the LUX Center for the Arts. Our kids benefit from the art classes that are part of our after-school programs. Kids who attend after-school programs are more engaged in school, participate in leadership activities and score higher on tests.” –Rik Devney, Former Principal of Huntington Elementary
