SUMMER CAMP TEACHING ARTIST APPLICATION

 

Department: Learning & Engagement

Hours: Approximately 15-20 per week from June 5 through August 12, 2023

Compensation: $18/hour. Teaching artists are paid for class time and up to 45 minutes prep/clean up per class. 

Application Due Date: April 15th; applicants will be interviewed on a rolling basis. We will be hiring 3-4 instructors. 

Position Purpose: Summer Camp Teaching Artists are responsible for leading assigned summer camps which take place either in the mornings or afternoons throughout the summer. Each camp is 5 days long except for mini camps. 

Responsibilities: All Instructors are expected to arrive at least 15 minutes early and stay approximately 15 minutes after each class to ensure the classroom is clean and organized. Instructors are paid for up to 45 minutes of set up and clean up.

  • Participate fully in camps by using leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.  
  • Implement a camp specific curriculm and supplement with your own creative lesson plans. 
  • Encourage creative self-expression and facilitate a learner-led experience for students. 
  • Instruct students on the use of specific materials and tools; teach age appropriate teachnique and theory.
  • Maintain a classroom climate which nurtures and supports a learning environment with care, patience, and creativity.  
  • Manage classroom facilities and maintain the organization of materials.
  • Ensure student safety while they are on LUX’s campus.
  • Report all accidents or incidents to the Learning & Engagement Staff.
  • Communicate specific directions to interns and assistants if applicable.  
  • Abide by and enforce COVID protocols and procedures, including proof of vaccination and booster, mask-wearing (if applicable), and sanitizing facilities. 

Classroom Instructor Schedule: Camps are 9am-12pm and 2pm-5pm Monday through Friday. Instructors are expected to be in their classrooms at least 15 minutes before the start of camp and stay until students are picked up or replaced by another staff member. ​Summer Camp Training will be held during the evenings of May 24th & 31st. Both sessions are required. 

Qualifications: Candidates must have 1-2 years of teaching experience. Experience with elementary, middle, or high school aged students preferred. Candidates are encouraged to have a Bachelors in Art, Fine Art, Art Education, Early Childhood Education,or equivalent experience. Candidates are expected to be professional at all times. Candidates must support and practice imaginative, engaging, and learner-centered education. Candidates should be able to work individually and collaboratively in a team environment. We are looking for teaching artists for students of all ages but will prioritize applicants with experience with the K-2nd grade age group.
