LUX Center for the Arts Welcomes New Artist-in-Residence, David Kruk

Monday, August 11, 2025

LUX Center for the Arts is proud to welcome ceramic artist David Kruk as newest Artist-in-Residence. David will spend the year creating new work in the LUX ceramics center, teaching classes, and engaging with the Lincoln community.

Originally from Mountain View, California and raised in Aurora, Colorado, David earned his B.F.A. in Pottery from Colorado State University before completing his post-baccalaureate and M.F.A. in Ceramics at Kent State University. His path in clay has taken him to nationally recognized institutions including Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Colorado, the Archie Bray Foundation in Montana, and Haystack Mountain School of Crafts in Maine.

David’s practice is rooted in both tradition and experimentation. He works across hand building, mold-making, slip casting, and wheel throwing, while also exploring digital fabrication tools such as 3D printing, laser cutting, and CNC milling. His current body of work is inspired by the tension between the handmade and the high-tech, drawing on themes of technology, mysticism, and memory. By merging clay’s deep history with contemporary approaches to making, David creates objects that ask questions about identity, artifacts, and what it means to make in a rapidly evolving digital world.

During his residency, David plans to create both functional and sculptural work, experiment with new surface finishes and glaze research, and collaborate with other resident artists and local makerspaces. He will also be teaching community classes throughout the year.
