Summer Camp Manager 2026
Summer Camp Manager 2026
Job Description – Summer Camp Manager
Hours per week: 25-30
Pay rate: $22/hr
About LUX Center for the Arts:
LUX Center for the Arts makes art happen in Lincoln. In our classrooms, youth and adults discover the joys of ceramics, printmaking, painting, jewelry making, drawing and more. Throughout the year, our Outreach Programs provide art classes for at-risk youth, low-income schools, cancer patients and others that benefit from having first-hand art experience. In addition, five galleries and the LUX shop represent the highest caliber work of local, regional, and national artists, exhibited in more than 18 shows annually. We believe LUX can help people make connections to art regardless of who they are.
As a teaching organization, we follow a classroom philosophy that emphasizes process over product. Our intention is for students to gain experience and technical skills with the media and engage in artistic problem-solving rather than simply take home a look-alike product. During the 10 weeks of LPS summer break we offer morning and afternoon week-long camps for youth and teens.
We offer camps in a variety of media and techniques, with a focus on rotating programming each week so that repeat campers will have access to different experiences. Typical camps include ceramics, both throwing on the wheel and hand building techniques like slab and coil building, drawing and illustration classes, painting classes in a variety of media, printmaking, fiber, sculpture, jewelry and more.
About the position of Camp Manager:
LUX is seeking a seasonal Camp Manager position to help us facilitate our successful youth camp programming. Primary responsibilities include supporting instructors, interns and staff during classes and serving as a manager on duty to resolve issues that arise.
The Camp Manager position will work Monday through Friday during the day. It is expected that the person hired will be able to work at least 8 out of the 10 summer camp weeks.
The first camp sessions begin at 9am and end at 12:00 pm. Lunch care is provided from 12:00pm until 1:00 pm. The afternoon camp sessions begin at 1:00pm and end at 4:30pm, which is when all students are picked up for the day.
The specific hours of this position will be determined based on the candidate but are expected to be from 8:30 am until 5:00 pm or similar.
This position is not primarily a teaching position, but previous classroom management experience, and experience working with youth, is required. The Camp Manager should be comfortable in a classroom setting and able to step in and assist or direct the instructors and interns as needed.
Other duties will include helping prepare and distribute snacks, preparing for and cleaning up after lunch care, supporting instructors and interns while they take their breaks, cleaning and preparing materials for camps, and acting as a primary point of communication between staff and instructors.
This position will report directly to the Community Learning and Engagement Manager and will support the Administrative Assistant and other members of the LUX staff throughout a given week.
This is a wonderful opportunity for those seeking experience in the fields of education, arts education and youth development to receive some hands-on experience running youth programming in an educational setting.
This is also a wonderful opportunity for an experienced educator who is looking to extend their skills through the summer months by supporting a lively and fun group of children as they explore art making in a welcoming and vibrant educational setting.
