Daniel Garcia
Daniel Garcia (b.1995) is a visionary artist working in clay and ceramic materials. He was born in the northwestern region of the Mojave Desert in the city of Lancaster, CA. In 2021, he graduated from California State University of Long Beach receiving a BFA in Ceramics, and is currently an MFA student studying at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln (expected 2026). His works show juxtapositions of geometry and geological matrix pushing the boundaries of materiality and sacred spaces. Themes of dark fantasy inform an austere world of antiquity that conjures a relationship with humanity, the spiritual, and the erosion of earth.
I've always been fascinated by the earth's subterranean activity. Especially the layers of geological past that reveals a story of rebirth, death, alchemy and phenomenon. Historically, matter birthed from earth such as precious crystals, and mineral stones were believed to have a powerful energy encapsulated within them to guide into the physical or the spiritual world after death. These objects of praise are also referred to as the talisman. The talisman offers protection, healing, and strength. The installation you see is a surreal narrative that bridges the thought of the in betweenness of life and death. Where beauty meets grotesque, permeating the cycle of life. Earth deities offer their talismans in hopes to bring good fortune to us in the physical realm. Encouraging contemplation of what is beyond our physical body and how we come to accept our passing spirit into the next.
