Artist Statement

As a child, David Gracie had to travel over a one lane bridge to leave his neighborhood. Determining the right of way was a dance complete with honks, waves and nods. These gestures were in service of a complex calculation of urgency, deference and order.  For this exhibition David Gracie uses the analogy of negotiating a one lane bridge for his pairing of paintings. Conceived of individually, the newly paired paintings confront one another. With this confrontation a new urgency, deference and order is revealed.
