Create a shared artwork with another artist in this two-day workshop. On the first day, students will be paired with a partner (or may bring one) and guided through brainstorming exercises to explore their individual styles and develop a plan for a single, unified piece. The focus is on combining approaches in a way that feels cohesive rather than divided. On the second day, pairs will work together to bring their ideas to life, building and adjusting the work as they go.

Take it a step further by learning how to add long flowing hair and create bendable limbs for more expressive forms. Come with a design in mind or brainstorm a creature here. No experience necessary. Taking time for mindfulness, this workshop explores the meditative qualities of needle felting alongside the imaginative possibilities of herbology. Students will begin with a short, guided reflection, considering what they need more of in their lives and how a “magical” plant might support their wellbeing. From there, each participant will design and create their own needle felted potted herb.

Artist in Residence Alex Renbarger will demonstrate techniques such as building depth through layering, blending colors, and composing an image using wool. Students are welcome to create an imagined landscape, take inspiration from a master artist like Vincent Van Gogh, work from a real location, or create another simple 2D design of their choosing. Reference photos are encouraged. No experience necessary. All materials are provided. This Class is for students age 16+

Learn the magic of building unique painting textures with encaustic wax. Encaustic, composed of beeswax, hardened tree sap, and oil pigment is applied hot and fused to create translucent and striking surfaces.  Participants will be able to try brushing and dripping as well as using stencils and molds for quick results.  This class is taught by Lincoln studio artist Margaret Berry, who has taught encaustic processes for over 2 decades. She is an artist-in-residence with the Nebraska Arts Council and was selected for the first residency at the Cornhusker Hotel.

Create texture and depth through thick, visible brushstrokes and impasto techniques. You will be introduced to a variety of methods for building texture in your painting, including palette knives, thickening mediums, oil sticks, heavy-bodied acrylics, sgraffito, and piping bags. We will emphasize the palette knife as a tool when creating expressive abstract works and landscapes. Please bring a reference image if desired. No experience necessary, and all materials are provided. This class is for adults ages 16+.

Learn how to mix the exact color you want through color theory tips and hands-on experience. Students will choose colors from swatches, learn how to mix them using oil paint, and then use their custom colors to create a pixel-style painting. The learning happens in the mixing, but the memories will live on in your finished artwork. No experience needed.  This class is for adults ages 16+.
