In this 4-week class, students will learn the basics of linocut relief printmaking.  This beginner friendly medium is a favorite among all skill levels due to the ease or carving linoleum.  Students will create 1-2 relief prints in this course.  Please bring a reference image if desired. Welcome to all skill levels, this 4-week course for Adults 16+ will cover the basics of creating a comic book from thumbnail sketches to inking.  Storyboarding, page compositions, and various technical methods will be covered.  Students will use traditional comic book materials such as technical drawing pens, ink, and alcohol markers.  Students have the option to create a short comic which they can complete within the duration of the course, or work on a section of a larger project. In her work, LUX Artist in Residence Madison Svendgard loves to incorporate gouache, acrylic, watercolor, and colored pencil all within one piece.  In this workshop, shewill talk about the different qualities of these mediums and how to combine them cohesively within one piece.  Please bring a reference image if desired. Botanical illustration is the art of depicting the form, color, and details of plant species so it can be identified. In this 3-week class, participants will learn to draw botanical illustrations using colored pencil. Working from both photographs and live flowers/plants, participants will practice layering and color blending techniques while developing an eye for composition. All materials will be provided. Explore your voice through creative expression! Expressions of Art and Hope is a series of free art classes for individuals living with and beyond cancer. These classes are usually held the second Monday of each month in collaboration with CHI Health/St. Elizabeth and the LUX Center for the Arts. All participants must register individually. Classes take place at the LUX Center for the Arts from 6:00pm-8:00pm. In this workshop, participants will embroider tea towels. You may bring your own design or the instructor will have several options available. All materials will be provided.

Participants will learn basic embroidery stitches, block printing methods, and experiment with combining the two to create unique patch designs. All materials provided. This class is for Adults 16+.

In this workshop, Jewelya Coffey, current 2D Artist-in-Residence at the LUX Center for the Arts, will teach the basics of creating trace monotypes, a process she uses regularly to begin a drawing. A trace monotype is a printmaking process that involves drawing on paper laid over an inked plate. The pressure of the pencil transfers ink to the paper, creating a unique print. These specific monotypes will be used with oil paint, which makes it a print, painting, and drawing all in one. Coffey's process incorporates many layers as well as colored pencils on top.

In this workshop, Teens age 12-15 and Adults 16+ will explore still life drawing with a variety of drawing materials such as graphite pencils, graphite sticks, conte, and craypas. Teens, age 12-15, do not need a parents/guardians to stay, but they MUST be reachable in case of emergencies. All materials are provided. This class is open to ages 12+.
