Exhibition Description

Today We Feel by Sarah Berkeley is a series of photographic portraits taken while people were being mindful of their feelings. The portraits are titled by the words the person used to describe their feelings after the photograph was made. In response to the perceived strong divisions between various groups of people at this particular moment in history. Today We Feel elucidates our shared humanity and interconnection.

Sarah Berkeley is an interdisciplinary artist living and working in Lincoln, Nebraska. She creates public interventions and durational performances that elucidate the absurdity of maintaining cultural norms that divide people, create unhealthy bodies and destroy the planet. As such, her work addresses the human-created world of power dynamics and sets it against the backdrop of the natural world. Berkeley researches structures such as the 9-to-5 workday, the office environment, commuting, racism, social class, gender stereotypes and the voluntary sharing of personal data. Her work brings people together to reflect and laugh as a healing antithesis to the trauma many of these structures have caused. Berkeley documents and exhibits photography, video and GPS of these actions.
