Larsen ELECTRIC
Larsen ELECTRIC
Larsen ELECTRIC is a hybrid exhibition combining the varied practices of Gretchen and Michael Larsen, a sibling duo from Lincoln, whose individual creative and professional pursuits span art-making, lighting design, electrical construction, and art installation.
Larsen ELECTRIC is a somewhat tongue-in-cheek play on the actual name of the family company, while also serving as a metaphor for the grow-light inspiration that powers the two artists’ varied endeavors. The artists’ shared childhood serves as a backdrop for the show. Snakes weave through the grass in LED landscapes, weepy sunflowers bathe in electrified fields, and a small fire burns quietly in a television stick shell.
Michael Ian Larsen is an artist from Lincoln, NE. He has an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and has completed residencies at the Lux Center, the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts, and Art Farm. One and two-person shows include Project Project in Omaha, the Jackson Dinsdale Art Center at Hastings College, and Peregrine Program in Chicago.
Gretchen Kathleen Larsen is an artist from Lincoln, NE. She holds an MFA in sculpture and a PhD in Innovative Learning Technology from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. She teaches creative coding at the Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts at UNL, publishes and presents nationally and internationally on teaching at the intersection of art and technology, and has created interactive light-based installations for over ten years.
