Advanced Ceramics: Toolmaking
Advanced Ceramics: Toolmaking
In this eight-week Advanced Ceramics class students will learn to make various types of custom pottery tools for their wheel throwing practice. Tools are an integral part of working with clay and making custom tools can help empower you in your process and take your work to new heights!
Students will make a variety of pottery tools from spiraled cut-off wires, wood ribs and knives, needle tools, stamps and texturing tools, sponge on sticks, and so much more! There will be time during class for wheel throwing demonstrations and for students to work with their new tools on the pottery wheel. Materials and any firings are at the discretion of the instructor. Note that many tools made in this class will require the use of power tools (saws, sanders, drills, etc), students will be trained on how to safely use the equipment but use your best judgement if this class is right for you. This class is for Adults 16+. Pre-registration is required.
Pre-requisite: This is an Advanced course and is restricted to students who have taken an Intermediate or Advanced Wheel class at LUX or have had the equivalent experience elsewhere. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions!
