Join a date, family member or friend or venture out on your own for a night of fun on the pottery wheel! You are guided through the basics of working on the pottery wheel in this fun and messy workshop! Each participant gets to keep one project from the evening which will be clear glazed and ready approximately two weeks after the workshop. Please wear older clothes and shoes as they may get messy or stained. This workshop is for Adults 16+.
Start your weekend with a fun, wheel-throwing class for all ages! LUX Teaching Artists will provide instruction and inspiration as participants learn the basics of the pottery wheel. Projects may include bowls, mugs, and vases. A paying adult must accompany all children age 11 and under. Participants aged 9 and under must share a wheel with a parent/guardian. Teens, ages 12-15, do not need a parent or guardian to stay, but they MUST be reachable in case of emergencies. Pieces will be clear-glazed by the instructor and will be ready for pick up in 2 weeks.
Intermediate wheel students will build skills and fluency with clay by exploring the foundations of the pottery wheel with a variety of fun exercises and loose assignments. The class will begin with an overview of the basics (wedging, centering, pulling, etc) to build a solid foundation and help give students confidence to take on more complex forms. Students will learn, in depth, about the process of turning clay into ceramic, including drying stages and moisture management, firing processes, decorating techniques, fixing mistakes, planning forward, and more.
Create your very own handmade mugs in this two-week mini course! With instructor demos and one-on-one guidance, students will learn the basics of throwing on the wheel including centering, opening, and pulling walls to achieve height. After the first week, participants will trim their forms, create and attach handles, and will have the option to glaze their work in a variety of colors. All experience levels welcome. Finished mugs will be low fired to Cone 04 and ready to pick up two weeks after the end of the course.
In this 2-hour workshop, participants will learn the basic skills of Ikebana to create a beautiful flower arrangement with Artist-in-Residence, Stacy Larson. Bring your own flower vases to use or you may borrow one during the workshop. Participants will leave with a small flower frog/kenzan to display their Ikebana floral arrangement at home. This class is for Adults 16+.

Experience the Wheel (Level 1) is a quick and dirty class that lets you dip your toe into the basics of wheel-thrown pottery. This three-week ceramics course, taught by LUX Artist-in-Residence David Kruk, is designed for people with no background in clay looking to experience the wheel in an easy and no-stress environment. This class is a wonderful way to familiarize yourself with our studios and join our ceramics community! Students will use earthenware clay and low-fire glazes. All materials and kiln firings are included.
This class offers continuation of the fundamentals of wheel throwing. Dive a little deeper into the basics of throwing, trimming, and glazing by experimenting with different forms and refining techniques in this six week class. Students will use earthenware clay and low-fire glazes. All materials and kiln firings are included. Pottery wheel experience prior to registering for this class, or previous enrollment in Intro to Wheel Throwing or Experience the Wheel is recommended though not required.
